The Knicks will be one of the worst teams in the NBA this season
I don’t know a single person who expects the New York Knicks to come close to clinching a playoff berth this coming season due to their lack of talent.
Former Knicks head coach Jeff Van Gundy was very honest when assessing New York’s talent heading into the season.
“When you look on the floor right now, even if they had Porzingis – [rookie Kevin] Knox has got a chance – but you look at their team, they’re just not a talented team,” Van Gundy said Monday on a conference call to promote ESPN’s 2018-19 season, via Newsday.
Van Gundy made a great point when it comes to Kristaps Porzingis by stating that he not only have to recover from a torn ACL, but also have a improve as a player.
“It’s not just his health,” he said. “He’s got to get better to be a best player on a really good team – and then they have to supplement their talent.”
Vna Gundy is right, which is why the Knicks aren’t close to becoming a contender unless they sign some big-time free agents next summer.
For now, New York can only hope that players like Porzingis, Frank Ntilikina, Kevin Knox, Mitchell Robinson and Allonzo Trier all develop into stars.
Comment below and give us your thoughts on what Van Gundy had to say.
