Willy Hernangomez knew his future wasn’t bright with the Knicks
Former New York Knicks’ center Willy Hernangomez is a very talented young player and showed some promise during his time in the Big Apple.
Last season it was quite a surprise that the Knicks and former head coach Jeff Hornacek didn’t give Hernangomez more playing time. Which is why he requested a trade.
Hernangomez now admits that he asked to be traded last season. He ended up getting his wish after he was dealt to the Charlotte Hornets.
Unfortunately for Hernangomez he didn’t get much more playing time with the Hornets last season but things seem to have picked up in 2018-19.
This season he’s been averaging over 12 minutes, 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds per game.
Hernangomez is only 24 years-old and should have a chance to make an impact on a team like Charlotte who could make a playoff push. It will be interesting to see how things turn out for him going forward.
It would have been nice for the Knicks to keep Hernangomez, but it’s been great to watch second round pick Mitchell Robinson flourish as a rookie. If I had to choose between the two of them, I would go with Robinson and his freakish abilities.
