Following a game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this week, former New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler said that he believes the Knicks are closer to landing a “big time” free agent next summer.
During an episode of The Jump, this led ESPN’s Brian Windhorst to claim that he agrees with Chandler and that he believes the Knicks will have a good chance at signing a top-tier free agent next summer.
Knicks’ fans are of course hoping that Windhorst is right. but the question is, who will the Knicks sign next summer?
Below is a list of the top soon-to-be free agents.
Of course the Knicks have been linked to Kevin Durant. But Stephen A. Smith recently came out and stated that he’s “playing the Knicks” and won’t sign with them.
Prior to the start of the regular season, Kyrie Irving shot down speculation of him leaving the Boston Celtics next summer.
Jimmy Butler or Klay Thompson would be great, but both players have made it clear that they would like to stay with their respective clubs.
With New York’s glaring need at point guard, if they can’t land guys like Durant, Thompson and Butler, settling for someone like Goran Dragic may not be a bad idea. Another option would be Kemba Walker, who’s having a phenomenal season.
Right now the Knicks need to focus on developing their young guys in Frank Ntilikina, Allonzo Trier, Kevin Knox and Mitchell Robinson while also hoping that Kristaps Porzingis will return without any problems with his surgically repaired knee.
