Knicks pulling out all the stops for Kevin Durant
Not only can center DeAndre Jordan help the Knicks mentor their younger players and clear off cap space at the end of the season with his expiring contract, but they’re also hoping that he can help them lure Kevin Durant to the Big Apple.
Stefan Bondy of the NY Daily News reported on Tuesday that the Knicks look at Jordan as someone who can help them sign Durant this coming offseason due to the fact that they’re very good friends.
As Bondy points out, the only reason Durant ever thought about signing with the Los Angeles Clippers before landing with the Golden State Warriors, is because of Jordan.
Both Jordan and Durant have known each other for the past 12 years and it goes back to college when KD tried to get Jordan to attend the University of Texas. He ended up instead going to Texas A&M.
If Durant ends up signing with the Knicks, maybe he can talk Jordan into taking a cheap deal in order to come along for the ride and help New York become a championship contender, since they will need a veteran in the middle.
When Jordan was traded to the Knicks last week, the belief was that they could end up trading him or buying him out. It looks like he’s here to stay for at least the rest of the season. Of course he will be a free agent this summer and can then decide where he goes from here.
Jordan seems to have a great attitude even though he was traded to the worst team in the NBA. He’s a guy that seems to be fine with helping a young team.
