Kevin Knox doesn’t understand how the NBA works
Earlier this week New York Knicks’ rookie forward Kevin Knox stated that it annoys him that fans want them to lose and aren’t mad about the fact that they’ve lost so many games so far this season.
“Yeah, a lot of fans, they always say some dumb stuff,’’ Knox said, via the NY Post. “You see it all the time with the tanking and want us to lose, stuff like that. It’s kind of stupid. They’re not really true New Yorkers. Real Knicks fans know that we’re trying to just take this year to just develop us young guys and then next year hopefully make a push.”
I get why it annoy Knox, but I think a lot of Knicks’ fans are realistic, they know this team isn’t good enough to contend for a playoff spot, so the next best thing is to land the top overall pick and be able to select Zion Williamson in this year’s NBA Draft.
Knox is silly to say that Knicks’ fans aren’t real New Yorkers if they’re hoping for them to lose. I think the losing would bother the fans if this team was good enough to contend with the likes of the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, but they’re not even close right now.
The Knicks have a good young nucleus of players, but it’s going to take time for them to develop into a team that’s going to make some noise in the East.
New York fans have been suffering enough over the past 20 years that all they can do right now is hope that this team will continue to lose this season in order to have a shot at Zion. It’s sad, but it’s where the franchise is right now and Knox is wrong to criticize the fans. Why should they hope that this team will win meaningless games down the stretch of the season?
