David Fizdale will continue to play with his line-ups
The New York Kncks will be loaded in the back court when Emmanuel Mudiay and Frank Ntilkina come back from their injuries soon. They already have Kadeem Allen, Allonzo Trier, Dennis Smith Jr. in the mix and just signed 6-foot-4 John Jenkins who can play small forward, but is probably a better fit at shooting guard.
Knicks’ head coach David Fizdale told reporters on Wednesday that he’s open to having Mudiay and Smith play together, per Ian Begley of ESPN.
With Ntilikina not likely to be ready this week to return, having Mudiay and Smith play together may not be a bad idea. They’re both guys that can make an impact on the offensive end of the floor. We know that Fiz loves to play with his line-ups. With so many young guys in the back court, he now has more talent to play with.
The duo that everyone is looking forward to seeing is Smith with Ntilikina because many people think Ntilikina will flourish next to Smith. I honestly don’t see that happening. Frank isn’t going to suddenly shoot better because he’s playing with Dennis Smith Jr.
The fact of the matter is that whatever the Knicks’ line-up looks like on Friday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves, it won’t be the same for the remainder of the season. Fizdale will continue to tinker with things.
One thing is for sure though, Smith will continue to start at the point for New York. He’s been averaging 17 points and six assists since coming over from the Dallas Mavericks.
